SAFIYA MUHARUMA
Law Clerk
Safiya is a law clerk joining Mathany & Higgs Law after a 13-year career in aviation as a crew operations manager and administrator.
Originally from Toronto, Safiya spent her university years balancing studies and athletics. As a member of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Women’s Hockey Team, Safiya was part of the undefeated squad that went on to win a national title. During her varsity career, she also represented Canada on the Under 22 Women’s National Team. Upon graduating from teacher’s college, Safiya traveled to Europe to compete semi-professionally in the Swiss Women’s Hockey League.
In 2014, Safiya returned to the women’s hockey program at UofT as an assistant coach. For eight seasons, she worked alongside head coach and Olympian Vicky Sunohara. Today, she continues as an active alumna, bringing past players together and organizing events to support the current women’s team.
